How One Young Man Elevated...
"What can I say about Elevated Grounds? The people who make up Elevated Grounds are intelligent, gifted, and passionate. Their ability to creatively spread awareness on the mental health issues that effect our youth, is necessary and powerful. Elevated Grounds is a team who cares about each other and the greater community at large. I had the great pleasure to be a member of this team and take part in the 12th Annual George Brown College Mental Health Conference. It was hands down, one of the best experiences of my life! I can say this confidently, because as a mental health survivor, I was given the opportunity to share my thoughts with a larger audience of mental health professionals. This experience gave me a greater appreciation of who I am, what I've overcome, and the limitless opportunities in front of me! Thank you Elevated Grounds, for helping to nurture gifts, promote talent, and restore lives through your organization's core principles and practices. Your organization truly has a bright future! The time I spent with EG has been the best experience of my life! In fact, it's part of the reason why I decided to apply for school. My heart is calling me into youth/young adult work. I don't know what form it will take in the future, but I'm confident that my steps will be guided. Stay Elevated!" |
Her Elevated Grounds Experience...
In the summer of 2010 I had a great working experience with the company Elevated Grounds. I was able to travel throughout Toronto and be apart of many great events such as, “Starborough” and “Dusk Dances” while a part of Elevated Grounds. I met many new and friendly people and had a chance to work on my own skills as a performer and learn new techniques and new ways of using my talents. I represented Elevated Grounds in a dance group and our job was to depict mental health awareness through dance. Our choreographer showed us how there are many struggles one would face when dealing with a mental illness. Many viewers of our performance expressed how powerful it was and I feel that we shined some light about mental illnesses in our communities and gave them a better idea about what its like to deal with a mental illness. Elevated Grounds has a great and effective method of incorporating the performing arts with an educational outlook. We entertain while we educate which I think makes the audience far more engaged in our messages. I noticed while performing our audience always seemed to be so into it while attentively listening and watching. I could tell that they were really interested in what we were demonstrating. When educating with the performing arts I feel that it engages the audience more because of the diversity of how we can educate instead just doing a speech on the importance on mental awareness we show how mental illnesses affect people and how they can be treated. I am very grateful to have been apart of Elevated Grounds. Being apart of the team has taught me so much about mental illnesses as well as the different ways the arts can educate and entertain audiences. This was a great experience and I will never forget it or the people I have met.
