Performance Reviews
The following quotes were provided by judges Weyni Mengesha, Che Kothari and David "Click" Cox, who are representatives from the performing arts industry who provided feedback about EG’s presentation that was showcased at the AGO as a part of the Toronto ArtReach Youth event in 2010.
"The creativity in the performance was refreshing and unique. I loved the set up". " The stage presence and personality was strong, and confident. Elevated Grounds worked well with the audience". "The message of Elevated Grounds was very strong and clear, great vocals and overall performance". The Elevated Grounds show came off without a hitch to an almost sold out crowd. The event could not have gone off more smoothly. Given that this was a positive experience for the audience I would highly encourage other venues to support this cause". -Mr.George Benedek: Principal, Stephen Leacock CI. Between sessions, a performance by arts group Elevated Grounds enlivened the proceedings. Elevated Grounds strives to bring attention to mental illness to youth through dramatizations and music, and their compelling performance riveted the crowd. The performers used theatre to illustrate the mental health and addiction issues that young people from ethnoracial and ethnocultural groups face and how they must navigate them without adequate and culturally-appropriate supports. - George Brown College Mental Health Conference March 3, 2011. The message of mental health, mental illness, stigma and management of life challenges was clearly indicated in their performances. The serious concerns surrounding concurrent disorder which is prevalent in the adolescent population was addressed in a very direct, but sensitive manner. The young artists illustrated passion and dedication throughout their performance. Their creative strengths were evident throughout their performances(s) which created a positive and inspiring energy for those viewing the performance. I would highly recommend Elevated Grounds to perform at any venue which strives on the promotion of mental health and who has an interest in receiving the important message that one can have a mental illness, but still have mental health. It will inspire an audience of all ages and touch the hearts of those who have a passion for understanding mental health and/or mental illness. I hope to be given the opportunity to view their performance again in the near future. Mental Health Nurse, Roy McMurtry Youth Centre |
