Elevated grounds is using the performing arts to shatter myths about an issue in our community that’s been taboo for too long — mental health. ‘Stress-N Out’, will use song drama, spoken word and creative movement to show how young people are affected by mental issues. If you think these problems are rare, think again.

The facts on Mental Health:

One in five people in Ontario will experience a mental illness in their lifetime (CAMH 2005)
Canada’s suicide rate of youth under 21 is among the highest in the world (CAMH 2005)
80% of Canadians will be affected by mental illness through family members or friends (CAMH 2005)

Elevated Grounds (EG) was established in 2003, and we have been elevating the lives of youth ever since…

We serve youth in need between the ages of 14-18 and who live in the “priority-neighborhood” of Steeles/L’Amoureaux(Scarborough) otherwise known as S.L.A.M.

The EG Mandate

Elevated Grounds’ mandate is two-fold:
1) To provide youth with an understanding of the historic,as well as contemporary field of Performing Arts, while improving their talents in music, dance, drama, and spoken word poetry.

2) To empower young people with a sense of personal and social responsibility through our self-development programs.

The EG Goals

To help youth improve their artistic talents, skills, awareness and gain knowledge about social issues in their communities.

To utilize the arts to effect change in the lives of youth and the communities in which they live.

To provide youth with opportunities to perform as a way of enhancing their confidence as educating entertainers.
